And then there was an insemination…..
After missing ovulation in September, which was a disappointment for sure, we were lucky to get a +OPK on October 22nd, meaning we get to go in for our first insemination on Tuesday the 23rd of October. Fun right….. Exciting, overwhelming seems like everything we’d been waiting for was suddenly happening.
The appointment was scheduled for check in at 10:30am. We didn’t really know what the procedure would be we were told that check in would be roughly 45 minutes prior to insemination taking place. We found out that this was to allow for time to prepare the “man juice” as Jeanna calls it 🙂
So there isn’t a lot of time to prepare for an insemination appointment you don’t necessarily get your primary care doctor to perform insemination and as such we were booked in with a doctor we had not seen before but I wasn’t concerned as I have faith in all of the doctors at our ob. So we were off to our appointment we checked in and waiting to be called back. Wasn’t long before and nurse came to call us back both Jeanna and I stood up and walked to meet the nurse. She was pretty young and looked semi confused looked at me and said they were taking me back to get vitals and asked if “HE” had brought his specimen with him……. WAIT – SAY WHAT???? I looked at her, I was at a loss for words (and trust me this doesn’t happen often) and said; “He’s a SHE!!!!!” Then said YOU ALREADY HAVE OUR DONOR SPECIMEN!!!!” Well you could tell – almost as soon as this statement came out her mouth she realized what she’d said and if she could have she would have crawled into her own skin. With that…..I just dropped it and went on with the appointment. We took it as the humor that it ended up been and we laughed a lot at the look on her face after she said it.
After getting vitals etc etc we were instructed to wait out front again for about 45 minutes while they got everything ready….. Whatever that all entails lol! While waiting we quick ran to Mc Donald’s for breakfast hehe.
We went back and directed into a room to get “ready” aka……drop your pants……The doctor came in and introduced herself etc and then said she was going to quickly check with the lab to make sure we have good ‘swimmers’ and she returned stating that indeed they were good swimmers – YAY!!!! She got everything ready, explained how everything worked and all that good stuff, then attempted to get the ‘goods’ into the syringe, while trying to do this she gets very confused, Jeanna says what’s wrong? She said it’s empty….. I’m laying there, no pants on, totally vulnerable, thinking huh? WTH???? She gets up again, heads out the door and Jeanna and I are left there looking at each other…….
The doctor returned with a syringe, with my name on the label, she’s chuckling, says “I guess the lab was keeping it warm for us. ” I wondered why they hadn’t told her when she first went out…… But anyways we now have what we need and again I chalk it up to the fact that it will just add to the story we’ll one day tell our little one as to how comical this all was.
The doctor did what she had to do, I’m not getting into that much detail 😉 and after the procedure was done I lay on the table for about 20 minutes just chilling, Haha. Jeanna and I chuckled about all the mishaps of the morning and then we headed home and the dreaded TWW (two-week wait) begins until you can take a home pregnancy test to see if you were successful or not……but that’s a story for the next post!!
