Ok, Ok!! It wasn’t that kinda doctor but we did have to see a counsellor, a requirement of the clinic we are using for the insemination process. To be completely honest I don’t know why this is done, but it is, and as the doc said yesterday, “As a way for the clinic to cover themselves!” Not sure from what, and I don’t really care, haha!! It was just another step in the process that we must complete to reach our ultimate goal.
The lady we saw was actually really nice, an older lady, she went through the gauntlet of questions that are required and I am pretty sure we deviated from that list at times 🙂 like why am I am now living in MN, discussing how the baby bonds with each of us, and a few other topics. The usual questions, are we financially stable (although this question really is rather ridiculous, I mean cmon……….how many people out there can NOT afford to have children but still have lots of them), do we use or abuse alcohol and drugs, how long had we been considering this, etc etc. We had a good chuckle when we told her that we found out beer expires, when we attempted to take the beer from our fridge to a get together and realized it had in fact expired a couple of months prior to that date.
So all in all we passed the test, or not test, whatever it was the very nice lady said she’d write a letter to our clinic stating that we are ready for this and whatever else she says? She did have some very good pointers for us, being that she has worked in fertility clinics for almost 20 years. Such as having Jeanna and myself each choose 5 donors and then compare our lists to make our final decision. And to get some reading materials, there is so much out there, about how and what to tell our little munchkin when the questions arise about where they came from, why they don’t have a ‘dad’ etc. and ensuring that the information is age appropriate. Thank goodness I will be done with my MBA 9/13 as I’ll have a lot of new material to read up on.
She also said for us to savor all of this………that what we were embarking upon truly is a miracle and to take in each and every step and ENJOY IT!!!!!! And again that is why we are blogging about this journey………to be able to look back on all of it, the hard times, the crazy requirements, the difficulties and the good things, and perhaps even one day share this journal of our journey with our child, so they can see how much we really wanted them to be a part of our lives and our family!!!!!
